Deck Builders Austin

Free Deck Estimates and Quotes in Austin, TX

Every deck estimate from Austin Deck Builders – Design & Installation is free, written and comes with no obligation. Fill in the form or call (512) 354-7633, and we’ll set a time to come out and look at the space.

We see the yard before we quote the deck. Our own crew has built and repaired decks across Austin since 2011, on more than a thousand projects, and the yard has always decided more about the price than any catalog does.

1. Tell Us About the Project

Use the form on this page or call us, Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. A few lines on what you want built, fixed or refinished is plenty.

2. Site Visit

We come out and walk the space with you. We look at the slope, the soil, the trees, the drainage and the wall the deck will meet, and we talk through how you’ll use it. On an existing deck, we check underneath it too.

3. Written Estimate

You get a written estimate that spells out the work, the materials and the price. There’s no obligation: take it, think it over, compare it with other bids or say no. You don’t owe anything for the visit.

What the Written Estimate Covers

The estimate lays out what we’ll build or fix and how: the size and layout, the footings and framing, the decking material, stairs and railings, and any tear-out or haul-away. It also says whether the job needs a permit, which we coordinate through third-party permit partners.

If you’re weighing two materials or two layouts, we can price both, so you’re comparing real numbers for your own yard.

Why We Do Not Quote by Phone or From Photos

A photo can’t show how far down the rock sits, whether the clay holds water, how the ledger meets the house or what a tree’s roots will allow. Those are the things that move a deck price the most, and they’re also the things that cause surprise costs when a builder guesses.

That’s why every number we give comes after a site visit. It takes a little longer up front and saves arguments later.

Free Estimates for Every Service

Estimates are free whatever the job.

New decks. We price every stage of new deck builds, from footings to railings.

Replacement. Tearing out an old deck and building new is covered on our worn deck replacement page.

Repairs. Boards, railings, stairs, posts and joists are all part of our deck repairs.

Staining and sealing. Cleaning and refinishing wood decks is handled by our deck finish work crew.

Design. Layout, levels and stairs get worked out on site through deck layout planning.

Not sure what your deck needs yet? Start with a free deck inspection, and we’ll tell you whether it’s a repair, a replacement or nothing at all.

What Drives the Number

No two decks cost the same, even at the same size. These are the things that move a deck estimate up or down:

  • Size and height: more square feet and more height mean more footings, framing and railing
  • Materials: composite from Trex, TimberTech or Fiberon, PVC, aluminum, ipe and other hardwoods, cedar, redwood, pressure-treated pine or modified wood
  • The ground: clay that needs deeper footings, rock that needs drilling, a slope that needs taller posts or extra stairs
  • Attachment: a ledger on the house framing, a brick veneer wall to work around or a freestanding deck
  • Stairs, railings and levels: each set of stairs and each level adds work
  • Tear-out: removing and hauling away an old deck
  • Permit: whether the job needs one, and what the City asks for

If you’d like ballpark figures before we come out, our deck building cost guide covers typical ranges. Your written estimate is the number that counts.

What to Have Ready

  • A rough idea of the size and where the deck will go
  • How you’ll use it: dining, a hot tub, a grill, kids, pets, a pool
  • Any materials or colors you already like
  • Photos or plans of the house, if you have them, to help the conversation (not for pricing)
  • HOA rules, if your neighborhood has them

Do You Need a Permit?

Most new decks in Austin do. The City permit exemption list only covers a deck that’s 200 square feet or less, no more than 30 inches above grade, not attached to the house, not used as an exit and outside a flood hazard area. Replacing deck boards alone doesn’t need a permit.

Your estimate says whether the job needs one. We coordinate permits through third-party permit partners, and our deck permit basics guide explains the rest.

No. You can take the written estimate, compare it with other bids and decide in your own time. Nothing is owed for the visit or the estimate.

No. Every quote comes after a site visit, because the ground, the slope, the trees and the house decide more about the price than the size does. A phone guess usually turns into a surprise later.

It spells out the work, the materials and the price, including footings, framing, decking, stairs, railings, any tear-out and whether a permit is needed.

Yes. If you’re choosing between composite and wood, or between two layouts, we can price both so you can compare them for your own yard.
